National Skilled Nursing Care Week – May 8-14

As human beings we have a natural yearning to connect. Studies have linked people with strong social relationships to many aspects of positive health outcomes, especially among older adults.
Skilled nursing care centers and their staff provide a steadfast commitment to providing high-level of care for their residents. This has never been more evident than the last two years during the pandemic. In addition to protecting and caring for their residents around the clock during a time of limited visitation and social distancing, staff stepped in and served as family members and friends to ensure that residents had the essential social connections they needed.
The 2022 theme for NSNCW, held, May 8-14, will celebrate the essential role that skilled nursing care centers and staff play in Creating and Nurturing Connections for their residents.

National Skilled Nursing Care Week

Established by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967, National Skilled Nursing Care Week® (NSNCW) recognizes the essential role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s frail, elderly, and disabled.
This year, while it is more important than ever to celebrate NSNCW and recognize the staff and residents in our skilled nursing care centers across the nation, it is a challenge to figure out how best to do so. Current social distancing rules and the inability of friends and family to enter the buildings has changed much of the day to day life of the staff and the residents, and no one knows how long this is going to continue. One thing is certain, though, and that is that staff are playing a critical role in caring for residents and saving lives, and that deserves to be honored and celebrated.
NSNCW is also a time to recognize your residents, their special relationships with staff, and the family members that all make up your unique and wonderful communities. Keeping your community connected through the use of technology and social media is a great way to prevent social isolation and lift everyone’s spirits.
AHCA encourages you to explore the following resources for ideas and suggestions on how you might celebrate despite the limitations of social distancing. Check out our Suggested Activities for ideas and suggestions on ways you can celebrate NSNCW and the bookstore for special NSNCW products. You can also view, upload, and share messages of support at CareNotCOVID.com, and connect with us on Facebook and Twitter using #NSNCW and #CareNotCOVID to share activity ideas, videos, and messages.

National Skilled Nursing Care Week is May 12-18. The 2019 theme is “Live Soulfully,” which will celebrate skilled nursing centers, and their residents and staff, by showcasing how they achieve happy minds and healthy souls. Every day, skilled nursing centers assist frail, elderly, and disabled individuals in living their happiest lives. Whether it’s planting, cooking, reading or listening to music, staff at our nation’s centers pay it forward by dedicating themselves to improving quality of life for residents.

AHCA has several resources at ahcancal.org/NSNCW to help you celebrate NSNCW, including graphics, a planning guide, sample social media posts, newsletter template, and more. Use the hashtag #NSNCW on social media to share how you’re celebrating and follow us on Facebook here and Twitter here.

Celebrate National Skilled Nursing Care Week: May 13-19, 2018

Established by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967 and always beginning on Mother’s Day, National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW) provides an opportunity to recognize the role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.

The 2018 NSNCW theme announced by AHCA, “Celebrating Life’s Stories”, serves as a tribute to life’s most significant events, relationships and experiences that shape the unique perspectives of residents, families, staff, and volunteers in long term and post-acute care.

From May 13-19, 2018, centers will be encouraged to collect individual narratives to cultivate a shared sense of purpose at the center and in the surrounding community.

Skilled nursing care centers and members of the public can now download the 2018 NSNCW toolkit, which includes promotional resources to help increase engagement and participation during the observance by going to  https://www.ahcancal.org/events/national_skilled_nursing_care_week/Pages/default.aspx
