Compliance Update: DOJ Releases Free Elder Justice Webinars.

In the government’s quest to defend and combat against all forms of elder abuse, the DOJ provides a number of Elder Justice Webinars to educate professionals about how to prevent, detect, and correct potential instances of abuse or neglect.
Health care providers are expected to conduct internal investigations when there is suspected abuse or neglect.  Even for experienced interviewers, older adults can still present some unique challenges as interview subjects.  With more attention in the criminal justice system being directed towards the issue of elder abuse, forensic interviews with older adults are even more important.

  • This webinar covers tips and techniques for interviewing older adults and shows how forensic interviewing can help older adults in situations of abuse or neglect.
Federal agencies are teaming up to combat the growing problem of elder financial exploitation.  The DOJ offers a webinar, hosted by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, which encourages coordination among law enforcement, financial institutions, and adult protective service agencies.

  • This webinar seeks to raise awareness about Suspicious Activity Reports and the assistive role that they can play when law enforcement is investigating cases of elder financial exploitation.
