Celebrate Inspiring Generations During National Assisted Living Week

National Assisted Living Week® (NALW) 2024 is just around the corner! Have you made plans yet to celebrate “Inspiring Generations” next month?
The NALW website offers valuable resources to help kickstart (or continue) planning for September 8-14. Discover a variety of NALW products that your staff will love, graphics and logos to help develop materials for fun activities and celebrations, and a promotional toolkit with ideas on how to share this special week with local communities. The NALW Planning Guide​ is filled with activity ideas to make your celebration special—from honoring grandparents on their day to bringing generations together for fun, games, and great food.
Created by NCAL in 1995, this year’s theme – “Inspiring Generations” – offers assisted living staff, communities, residents, and families the opportunity to look at how assisted living has evolved and grown, inspired by the residents and those who care for them. This is a chance to listen and learn from each other, share stories and wisdom, and find inspiration from those around you.

National Assisted Living Week 2022 Celebrates “Joyful Moments”

​​​America’s assisted living communities will participate in National Assisted Living Week® (NALW) September 11-17, 2022. The national observance—which begins each year on National Grandparents’ Day and is supported this year by official sponsor First Quality—honors the individuals who reside, work, and volunteer in assisted living and residential care communities with special activities and events.
Created by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, this year’s NALW theme – “Joyful Moments” – reflects the strong connection between residents and staff and encourages them to join with their families and local communities to celebrate and create happy memories. This week also provides the opportunity to educate communities across the country about this sector of long term care and the dedicated, hardworking caregivers.

National Assisted Living Week Theme Revealed for September Celebration

The National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) said “Compassion, Community, Caring” is this year’s theme for National Assisted Living Week®. The annual, national observance—officially sponsored by First Quality in 2021—provides a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and local communities to celebrate the individuals who live and work in assisted living and learn more about this sector of long term care.

“This year’s National Assisted Living Week is special because of everything we have faced over the past year,” said NCAL Executive Director Scott Tittle. “’Compassion, Community, Caring’ reflects the hard work and dedication of all the essential caregivers in assisted living communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also represents the importance of family and remaining connected, even when we could not physically be together.”

Established by NCAL in 1995, National Assisted Living Week (NALW) will be held Sept. 12-18. “Compassion, Community, Caring” encourages assisted living communities around the country to host a variety of events that honor the individuals who reside, work, and volunteer in these communities while adhering to infection control requirements and precautions in place for COVID-19.

“First Quality is honored to be the official sponsor of National Assisted Living Week in 2021,” said Shelley Bache, First Quality Healthcare Leader. “After one of the most challenging years ever, it is imperative to remember and celebrate those in assisted living communities who did so much in the midst of so many unknowns. This week is a time to come together in a safe way and recognize the ‘Compassion, Community, Caring’ that could not be stopped by a pandemic.”

In the coming months, NCAL said it will issue a planning guide and products centered on ways to celebrate the week’s theme. Participants are asked to share their celebrations throughout the week on social media with the hashtag #NALW.

National Assisted Living Week Starts Sunday!

“Capture the Moment” is this year’s theme for National Assisted Living Week, which hopes to inspire residents to realize their dreams and seize the day. Simultaneously, the theme also supports reflection, as residents may look back on the pivotal moments in their lives. With the theme’s word play referencing photography, residents may refer to pictures or videos from their past.
The theme also aims to remind assisted living staff that often the little, everyday interactions with residents can deliver high quality, person-centered care. Assisted living communities across the country are encouraged to organize activities and events during NALW that help residents celebrate their past while also enjoying the present. Find out more at:
