What are the eligibility requirements for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Gerontological Nursing board certification?

Eligibility requirements to apply for certification are established by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). For the most current eligibility criteria please visit the ANCC website. The criteria provided by AHCA/NCAL Gero Nurse Prep staff and its website should not be considered final and are provided as a courtesy only.

Eligibility Criteria from the ANCC website as of September 2020:

  • Hold a current, active RN license within a state or territory of the United States or hold the professional, legally recognized equivalent in another country.
  • Have practiced the equivalent of 2 years full-time as a registered nurse.
  • Have a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice in the specialty area of gerontological nursing within the last 3 years.
  • Have completed 30 hours of continuing education in gerontological nursing within the last 3 years.*

*Successful completion of Gero Nurse Prep satisfies this requirement.
