The University of Nebraska Medical Center is the only public, state-supported, health sciences center in the state of Nebraska. The College of Nursing is integral to the academic health sciences center and is comprised of five campuses that span the 500 miles of Nebraska, across both urban and rural environments. The College of Nursing provides distance and online education opportunities to persons seeking academic degrees in nursing at the baccalaureate, master’s, and PhD levels of education in nursing, and is home to a robust continuing nursing education office. In April of 2017, TheBestSchools.org ranked the UNMC College of Nursing's RN to BSN program 13th out of 50 best RN to BSN online programs in the country.
The University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. In addition, we are approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, allowing us to take accredited programs into all 50 states. The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing Continuing Nursing Education (UNMC CON CNE) targets registered nurses, especially those engaged in specialty practices and those with advanced degrees, including advanced practice nurses (APNs) and faculty.
The UNMC CON CNE provides a vast portfolio of high quality accredited activities annually in a variety of formats, including live synchronous programs and asynchronous online activities. In 2006, consistent with the University’s mission to reach out nationally, UNMC CON CNE launched our online learning and evaluation system. Since its launch, more than 300 online learning programs have been presented, issued over 83,000 CE certificates to RN learners from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, District of Columbia, Canada, Australia, and the Middle East. Our highly developed technical capabilities include interactive instructional design, video streaming, custom Web development, visual design, dynamic Web pages, and data collection, storage, and analysis. We are also experts in activity evaluation creation and reporting. Our activity evaluation emphasizes levels 3 and 4 outcomes, linking learning outcomes to practice changes. All programs include an evaluation immediately post-activity. Our programs aim to enhance the knowledge, skills, attitudes, competence, and performance of nurses, ultimately improving patient outcomes and community health.

Consistent with the mission and vision of UNMC CON CNE, Gero Nurse Prep prepares gerontological nurses nationwide to sit for the ANCC Certification Exam in Gerontological Nursing by using interactive and engaging educational modules that were designed using the best adult learning principles and instructional design techniques. Some examples include video demonstration, case presentations addressing nursing priorities, matching games, and examination preparation. The course is Web based so it is available to RNs 24/7. RNs can work through the course at their own pace when his/her schedule allows. Currently, Gero Nurse Prep has a 96% certification exam pass rate. Hundreds of RNs have completed Gero Nurse Prep and achieved board certification, thereby demonstrating their proficiency in the areas of geronotlogical nursing and leadership.
